Birgit Speulman creates digital collages.
She shuffles with shapes and colors in overlapping layers until an image appears that refers to a landscape. The ingredients she uses are materials that have 'lived': torn paper, rusty iron, crushed lead, weathered wood.
During walks, she takes photographs. She discovers beauty in unexpected places, like building sites, a mud puddle, the weathered skin of a ship. The similarities between the images and collages are surprising. However the collages are not following the pictures.

Ze schuift met vormen en kleuren in elkaar overlappende lagen tot een beeld ontstaat dat associaties oproept met een landschap.
Als ingrediënten gebruikt ze materiaal dat 'geleefd' heeft: gescheurd papier, roestig ijzer, gedeukt lood, verweerd hout.
Tijdens wandelingen maakt ze foto's. Ze ontdekt schoonheid op onverwachte plaatsen, zoals een bouwput, een modderplas, de verweerde huid van een schip.
Er zijn verrassende overeenkomsten te ontdekken tussen de foto's en de collages. Toch zijn de collages niet naar aanleiding van de foto's gemaakt.
